You *must* have a terminator within about 4 inches of each end of the 
cable, and *must not* have any other terminators.  Other than that, it
doesn't matter which connecters are used and what's plugged into them.

In your case, you must connect one of your devices to the connector at the 
other end of the cable and must set that device to provide termination. 
The other device can use any of the remaining 3 connectors, but must be set
to not provide termination.
