Thanks to everyone who tried to help me with this one. I've narrowed the problem down considerably... I am using EZ-SCSI 4.0 with Win95 on a P100-based system. I have one SCSI interface, a SoundBlaster 16 SCSI-2 which is using the SPARROW.MPD miniport driver. My only device is a UMAX scanner. Here's the problem: upon receipt of a bus reset, the UMAX takes quite awhile (10 seconds or so) to "ready", and apparently does not respond to Inquiry commands during that period. It seems to me that when SPARROW.MPD gets loaded, it issues a bus reset, which obviously causes the scanner to reset. The net result is that SPARROW.MPD does not "see" the device, and since it is the only device on the bus, the host adapter does not appear in any of the EZ-SCSI tools (this behavior is documented in the EZ-SCSI 4.0 README file). The host adapter and its settings appear correctly in the Win95 systems config tool. Further, the scanner operates correctly using the UMAX test tool and Photoshop, both of which talk to it using TWAIN. In short, TWAIN access works, but the EZ-SCSI tools do not. Under DOS, simply loading ASPI2DOS.SYS yields similar results; the host adapter is recognized and initialized, but no devices are found on the bus. If I add the /NORST flag to the ASPI2DOS.SYS command line, the scanner is found and functions properly. What I am looking for is a way to convince SPARROW.MPD to avoid doing a bus reset, and/or a way to tell it to delay n seconds after reset before probing for devices. Is there any way to do this? Command line arguments? Config file changes? Special copy of the driver? Unfortunately, there is no way to disable bus reset processing on the scanner itself... :( tkarp ______________________________________________________________________________ Tom Karpowitz Executive Summary: Member of Technical Staff Solaris is good.
