I checked the Conner BBS and it mentioned that Disk Manager is one way to do
this. I happen to have bought DM awhile ago to be able to install my 540
meg drive. They also give other instructions, including using the Debug
command.

I ran DM and did its low level format, and ran all their tests. The
drive looked great. I doublespaced it also. Everything looked
*perfect*. This was last night. Got up this morning and it booted just
fine - but a later soft boot failed. In fact every soft boot fails. The
drive seems dead! More dead than before even. Occassionally a cold boot
will revive the drive and it works perfectly. It seems random. There
are no files on the drive. It is drive D: and the doublespaced new
drive is F:.

What might cause this random behaviour? I have reseated the cables,
checked the CMOS, etc - all to no avail. I am about to chuck the thing.
At least I know now that DM has other capabilities. Thanks for helping
me...

*sigh*
