I've also got a new 2217S. My previous hard disk was a 120MB Conner IDE,
so this was.. sort of a big jump. (I toasted my old data trying to back
it up.. go figure how clever I am..) Anyways. My reactions:

Sort of noisy, like a HardCard spinning.
Fast.
Hot! (As in thermally.) Do I need a good fan or should I move it
to an external enclosure? It sort of bothers me. It is well
ventilated, though.
No problems yet, and this is after pounding the hell out of it
for maybe a week and a half.

I think now that I like the quiet cool of a low profile drive more,
but the ~15 times storage is probably worth it.

Still, I wouldn't mind trading for two low profile drives.
