Hi All,
Hope I'm in the right group.

I have suddenly been geting an " A:\ drive not accessable message".
I have checked the drive on another PC and all is well.
Win 95 Display/Device Manager says all is O.K. too. No conflicts no
nothing. Can anyone shed some light on the subject as to why my Floppy
is not reading.
On boot-up I get the message.. Floppy disk Fail (40). If thats any
help.
thanks in advance.
Please email replies...

Check your BIOS configuration. Chances are that you have the wrong drive
type configured: eg 1.2MB instead of 1.44MB (assuming your A: drive is a
3.5" 1.44MB, of course).

Have you messed with any cables lately? I recently had the same problem while
installing a new harddrive; I needed a power connector, so I unplugged my B:
drive - but forgot to disconnect the data cable as well. I had your problem
until I realized what I had done & disconnected the ribbon cable.

Try a different power connector on it. Those small plugs are'nt as
reliable as the
large ones. I've had this trouble before and sometimes just twisting the
power
lead on an angle will help.

I am currently having the same problem :

Floppy disk fails error(s) 40 on my asus P2B motherboard.
The same drive works fine on my older pentium.

The floppy drive is a Sony MPF 420-1

Any help appreciated.

Patrick.

when u turn the puter on, does the drive light stay on, if it does,
usally means the cable wrong way round on the connecter.
