I purchased a Canopus Pure3d yesterday as an upgrade from my Diamond Monster 3d since I play a lot of Quake2 online and I was getting pretty severe slowdowns with the Monster when there were a bunch of people in the same room. Anyway, I installed it using the latest drivers released yesterday, and since I could take it up to 60mhz in the settings panel, I did - started up quake2 and....system locks up, reboot, take it down to 59, and still lockup, I had to take it all the way down to 54 so it wouldn't keep crashing. BTW, I have a fan blowing across the chips to keep them cool. I took it back to the store since I thought it may be defective (there was a little sticker on the card saying "fan failure") and just popped in a new one today with the very same results. The bottomline is, my older Monster3d has been running at 62mhz for the last 6 months without any problem whatsoever - no texture tearing, no lock-ups, just a really high framerate...and now I find that my "upgrade" to the Canopus Pure3d is really a downgrade. Suffice to say, I'm *very very* dissapointed with the Pure3d. Perhaps, in their effort to keep up with the Christmas rush, they've loosened their quality control measures...
