Diamond Monster 3DII Problem --- * INCREDIBLY SLOW *

I just bought a diamond monster 3dii PCI with 12 MB of memory on it and
installed it without any problems. That is, Windows detected it ok and
the software installed. When I run halflife or quake 2 in OpenGL
640X480 the graphics look good, but it is INCREDIBLY slow, as in maybe
one frame every five seconds. So, I'm assuming there has to be some
setup problem, but I can't hack it. Diamond's tech support was totally
useless. They said I had a defective card, but I don't want to jump to
conclusions. I tried switching PCI slots to no avail.

Here's my system specs:

Windows 98
Dell Optiplex GX1 PII 400 Mhz with 128 MB RAM
ATI 3D Rage video 64bit 133 Mhz with 4 MB SGRAM

My monitor works fine if I run the games in normal mode or for any
windows stuff.... Any ideas? Please send them to belknap@stanford.edu
.

Thanks a bunch!
-Pete

Probably is a bad card. Return it for another.

Sounds like you're running using MS OpenGL software rendering,
make sure you select 3Dfx OpenGL as the renderer in Quake 2.

My ! With that configuration ?!

Even MS OpenGL Software Renderer should get at least 15 Fps.

I have almost the same conf. Except Intel PII 350 - I get 38 - 40 Fps.

In Quake 2? C'mon!

When running in OpenGL do you choose OpenGL or 3DFX MiniGL?

Sounds like you're either using software OpenGL or the OpenGL ICD of the ATI
card. Are you selecting the "3Dfx OpenGL" driver in those games or just
"default OpenGL" ? If you're selecting "default OpenGL", make sure you use
the one for 3Dfxgl.

Nope, with software OpenGL he'll only get .5 FPS at most. You're thinking
Quake 2 and Half Life's software renderer.
