"Sacrifice" game crashes incesistantly

I recently upgraded my computer to an athlon 1.33Ghz with a Geforce3. I
started to play sacrifice recently and noticed that the game crashes way too
often. When I start the game, if I select "Direct3D T&L HAL", the game
crashes almost after just five minutes of play; if I select "Direct3D HAL",
the game doesn't crash nearly as often but still often enough to be
annoying. Each time it crashes it's a total freeze (no keyboard, no mouse,
requires hardware-reset) and often I notice some sort of mal-drawn frame.
It also somehow invalidates the latest save game, making it crash the game
if I attempt to the load that game. I have to go back to the previous save
game to load without crashing. (this is regardless of how much time has
passed between the two saves) As far as I know, I have the latest nvidia
drivers for the geforce3, latest directx, the via 4in1 drivers, and the
latest patch for sacrifice.

Has anyone experienced similar problems with this game? My detailed system
spec is below:

IWill KK266 Motherboard
Athlon 1.33Ghz (266Mhz FSB)
256MB PC133 SDRAM Cas 3
30GB Maxtor Drive
SB Live

Thank you very much for any help.
