Voodoo Graphics card will not work under Win98

I've upgraded my machine from Win95 to Win98, now
my Righteous 3D card will not work in Glide or Open GL modes.

It would appear to work in DirectX (v6.1 installed) - Worms Armegeddon
works as expected.

Whenever I try and run a game with Native support for Voodoo (v1) -
therefore
using the GLIDE api, I get a blank grey or black screen & then the
machine
hangs.

When I tried Quake2 & switched into 3DFX OpenGLmode the machine also
hung.

The card worked perfectly in Win95 (OSR2)

Try going back to 95? I know it's not much of a fix, but my machine runs
beautifully under 95 and under 98 nothing works - things hang, skip,
freeze and grind all over the place... and 'cos I don't use USB or
multiple monitors I figured screw 98 and stuck with 95.

Worked for me...

Cheers,

D.

Permedia2 based. Everything works just fine at 800 x 600.

I had the same problem, but under different circumstances, i has a voodoo
banshee and then took it out and used a voodoo 1 R3d card.

I would just lock the computer on all glide games, the problem was that the
directx drivers were for the old banshee card .

i had to do a fresh install of win98 which cured it!

system is 350 AMD
                      gigabyte GA-5X
                       64 mb RAM

maybe this will work??

so you didn't uninstall the Banshee card first?

I've reinstalled Win95 (so a nice clean installation), installed the
drivers for my Matrox Millenium card, then installed the drivers for
the Voodoo, tested the system - same problems, then installed direct X
6.1 - still the same problem.

Why have you replaced the Banshee for an older card?

Matt,

I had the same problem when upgrading my P233MMX to an AMD K6-3/400 last
week. The 3dfx reference drivers I was using for my Monster 3D no longer
worked (blank screen on D3D, OpenGLfx and Glide games). I re-loaded the
latest 3dfx reference drivers and it still didn't work. However installing
DX7 and the latest Diamond drivers fixed the video...now if I could only
get directsound working properly on the AWE64 Gold (it sounds choppy with
DX7 and AMD K6-3/400). Latest SB drivers are not certified and did not fix
the problem.

HELLO !

DO NOT INSTALL "3DFX" DRIVERS ON YOUR ORCHID RIGHTEOUS 3DFX BOARD !!!!
IT WON'T WORK CORRECTLY !!

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM !
JUST INSTALL DIRECTX 6.1 or BETTER (DX 7)
AND USE THE ORIGINAL ORCHID RIGHTEOUS DRIVER
VERSION 3.01 !
ftp://ftp.diamondmm.com/orchid/right301.EXE (3 MB)

IT WORKS FINE ON MY SYSTEM,
640x480 AT 56-62 FPS
800x600 AT 26-33 FPS

- AMD K6-2 3D 450
- DFI P5BV3+ VIA MVP3 1MB (Bios updated)
- 128 MB SD-RAM
- ATI 3D RAGE-PRO 8MB TV

I HOPE IT WILL HELP YA ! :-)

No, the problem is with a file called
something like fxmemmap.vxd, the version
in the new drivers doesn't work with AMD
cpu's. I believe 3dfx are aware of this
and Diamond have released fixed files.
So you can either replace this file with
an older version or install older
drivers.
