Should I use the Diamond or 3dfx drivers?

Hey guys, I have a Diamond Monster 3D, and I have been getting conflicting messages regarding which drivers to use. Some have told me to use the 3dfx reference Voodoo drivers, but 3dfx's web site themselves tell me to use the Diamond drivers. Which one should I use? Or is it a question of performance versus compatibility? What are the advantages or disadvantages of each? Thanks. --== Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ ==-- ---Share what you know. I'm using the Diamond drivers for my SLI setup because I couldn't get the 3dfx reference drivers to properly report the amount of memory available and couldn't do Q2 at 1024x768. I have used both and not seen a difference in fram rates. I was last using the Diamond drivers but, I switched back to the 3DFX drivers because Target lock box disappered in Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator when I used the Diamond Drivers. I have used the 3DFX drivers logest and have had no problems with my Monster 3D II SLI setup.

The Q3dfx drivers capped q2 at 25fps so i got rid of them and went back to Diamond ones and now q3 will sit 40-50 @ 1024 x 768 (as opposed to 20-30 b4) ;-) "Man who scratches ass should not bite fingernails" john_black@my-dejanews.com wrote: > Hey guys, I have a Diamond Monster 3D, and I have been getting > conflicting messages regarding which drivers to use. Thanks. It seems to be a question of compatibility vs. preformance. The 3dfx web site advises that the card manufacturer drivers will optimise the hardware, but there are some games out there that will work only with the reference driver. This is in reference to your newsgroup message: > The Q3dfx drivers capped q2 at 25fps so i got > rid of them and went back to Diamond ones and > now q3 will sit 40-50 @ 1024 x 768 (as opposed > to 20-30 b4) Which card do you have? I'm having problems getting Q3Test to run on a Diamond Monster Fusion (3DFx Banshee card.) **** Posted from RemarQ - http://www.remarq.com - Discussions Start Here (tm) ****
