I'm looking for a new monitor. I was going to buy a 17", however, I am
told the the "sweet spot" is now found in 19" range. Is this true?
What brands would you recommend? My budget si $450 max. I don't mind
buying online, but I would prefer to purchase locally in the Bay Area.

OK, this is the best deal I've found after a lot of looking, and I couldn't
be more pleased with my purchase. Viewsonic E790 19", $349 from
www.onvia.com with free shipping. Great image quality and high-end specs
from a bargain monitor.

I liked the first one so much that I bought a second for the second system
I'm building. It's still in the box (and NOT for sale), waiting for me
to clear a second desk area in the computer/junk room.

You may want to check out http://www.freemonitors.com/

You can get a $400 rebate on a Viewsonic monitor for signing up for MSN. But
the good part is that according to the fine print on the terms and conditions
page, if you live in California or Oregon, you can sign up for MSN, get the
$400 rebate and then cancel MSN and keep the rebate. Offer expires 12/31/99.
But I have no idea if this is completely accurate. Check it out yourself.
