I just upgraded my old AT clone from 640 K to 4 M, and I seem to be having a problem. The motherboard has the circuitry for expanded memory built-in, so I configured the system for 3M of expanded memory using the CMOS configuration program, and installed the EMS device driver that came with the computer. Several different diagnostic programs confirm that the memory is there and is OK. The problem is that WordPerfect doesn't want to access it. If I run it without any switches, it crashes when I load any file over 9k. If I use the /32 switch to disallow LIM version 4.0 calls, it runs but it doesn't seem to be using the expanded memory at all. The /ws switch (which shows the available memory) then lists only the conventional memory as available. I'm guessing that this means that my expanded memory is an earlier version of the LIM standard than 3.2, which is the earliest WordPerfect supports. Is this set by the hardware or by the device driver? If the latter, where can I get a new driver which will work with my hardware? Could there be something else wrong? Please reply by EMAIL. I will summarize to the net. ---Steven Leffler leffler@physics.ubc.ca
