Environment: MS/DOS V5.0. When one formats a 3.5" floppy disk (1.44MB),
at the end of the format (using DOS FORMAT) it tells you the total
disk space, the total available bytes on disk, 512 bytes in each
allocation unit, and 2847 allocation units available on disk.
I've got an application where I want to write a LOT of smaller files
(around 280 files, each file being around 3K bytes) to this floppy.
The total size required (280 * 3000) is clearly lessthan 1.44MB, yet
DOS won't let me do it. Not an "insufficient disk space" message, but
a bogus message about "can't duplicate file entry". I am assuming this
is because of the insufficient space for *directory* entries?
Is this logical? If so, is there a way (I couldn't find one) to
increase the size of each allocation unit from 512 to some other
number?
