I�m currently working on software using the parallel port for communication 
between two PCs. The software is working fine in polling and interrupt mode. 
My problem is that it is in the moment only working with some interface cards, 
e.g. an MIO-550 interface card with a ST16C552.
This card uses bit 5 of the printer control register for switching between read 
and  write mode. (Bit0=STROBE, Bit1=AUTO FEED, Bit2=INIT, Bit3=SLCT IN, 
Bit4=IRQ Enable, Bit5..Bit7 not used normally). 
This card uses Bit5 as follows: Bit5=1 ==> Read mode, Bit5=0 ==> Write mode
Other cards and motherboards with bidirectional parallel ports seem to operate 
the bidirectional port in a different way.

Who uses the bidrectional parallel port and can give me some hints?
Who has made experiences with other IO cards supporting bidirectional parallel 
ports?
Some of them have a chipset 82C865, 82C863 some use a 16C550 or a 16C522.
In the CMOS setup of a motherboard I found a parallel port mode setup. 
The following modes are possible AT - PS/2 - ECP - EPP? 
What are the differences?
