Hi Annie,

Most TAP ports speak both the ixo (tap) protocol and async ascii.  The
way the system tells the difference is when you first connect, either
you send an ESCAPE (ixo protocol) or a CR M CR.  (perhaps for Manual?).
The system will then ask you for a pager number, and then a message.
In manual mode messages can't have embedded returns.

There are also several Windows and DOS programs that are fairly cheap ($39)
that use the tap protocol.  Not a bad price if you do alot of pages.
