I have been having a strange problem on a PC that I need some help with.... The machine is a clone 486/66, running DOS 6.2 and WFWG 3.11; VLB m/board with 4Mb Ram and a Trident 512K ISA video card. Regularly if you try to open a file (not necessarily the same file, and not a very big one at that) the screen goes blank for a moment, then displays a distorted picture (horizontal lines) and then after a couple of seconds goes back to the original screen, but with the overall picture size shrunk, and the colours dimmed (a bit). The machine does not hang at any point, and continues to respond to the keyboard throughout and after all this shenannigans. I have checked the swapfile settings, reloaded all the video drivers, tried different drivers, tried different monitors, checked for viruses, even formatted the hard drive and reloaded Dos and Windows. I have now run out of ideas, so any help much appreciated. Incidentally, I have just noticed that Memmaker won't run on this machine, saying "No upper memory created", so I wonder if it is a hardware (ie memory) fault. Thanks for your help in advance.
