Hi, I have a PC with a 386DX40 Motherboard, 8Mb RAM and the 3C87-40 co-pro. Recently I noticed the computer's performance had dropped considerably when any OS/2, DOS or Windows software. I originally thought it might be a virus, however a check with 3 recent anti-virus packages didn't reveal anything. I ran the SYSINFO utility in Norton Utilities (v6.01) to test CPU and drive performance, only to find that the measured CPU performance index (10.2) was a quarter of its original value (40-50). The indices are relative to the IBM XT performance of 1.0. My two HDDs behaved normally. The RAM check at start up seems ok, although slower than it used to be. In fact all my software, including DOS games, works fine, just frustratingly slow. I have also looked under the hood for loose connections and charred chips, but to no avail. Is there anyone out there who may be able to help me? Has a motherboard component snuffed it?

Check the switch setting, look for loose or absent connection, motherboard may have just had a jumper on the turbo pins...and its off or defective/dirty. Otherwise I'd say a BIOS setting had been changed (or the battery is going bad and the BIOS settings are going away), resulting in an incorrect clock divide (or something along those lines. Good luck CB
