Can someone please help me....
My system was perfect until I upgraded from a ISA to a VL bus Super
I/O card. Note: already had VL bus SVGA card which worked perfectly.
Symptoms:
4 warning beeps on boot up
Windoze (WFWG 3/11) failed after initial Logo screen - back dos with
the message "error loading 256_1280.drv"
After wasting hours doing this and doing that I am now of the opinion
that I needed to change some jumpers to get the two VL bus devices to
work. I am up and running again solely because I've put the old ISA
I/O card back in (aforesaid symptoms disappeared). But I need the new
one to run my new Quad CD-ROM due to need for extra IDE i/face
(already got 2 hard drives) :-(
There are 3 VL bus slots.
The vesa SVGA card occupies VL3 - labelled "Slave" in the manual
The new I/O card "was" in VL2 - which is marked "master/slave"
Presumably the third VL slot is VL1
The manual gives the following Jumper info:
-------------------------------------------------
VL2 JP74 JP75
Slave 1-2 1-2
Master/slave 2-3 2-3
--------------------------------------------------
VL3 JP76 JP77
Slave 1-2 1-2
Master/slave 2-3 2-3
---------------------------------------------------
Should I move the SVGA to a different VL slot?
Any idea what jumper settings I should use
Any help would be gratefully received!
Could it be that the VL Super I/O card is faulty?
At present I am inclined to believe that it is my ineptitude that is
the problem {;-(
Perhaps a chat on IRC (?which channel) or by 'phone might be useful...
Many thanks
Geoff

All video cards want priority. Put your SVGA card into the VL1 slot.
