Testing virtual 8086 mode

On my 386 machine, Desqview 386 runs fine without the presence
of QEMM. When QEMM is installed DV locks up the computer even
before the copyright notice.

More or less the same thing happens when I run a new application
in Windows 386.

I am suspecting something wrong with the Virtual 8086 mode of
my 80386 CPU. Does anybody else experience the same problem and
come up with fixes?

Is there a simple way to test if the Virtual 8086 mode is
functioning properly?
