XMS functions ?

I want (need?) to access extended memory, using an XMS driver.
I have docs for using an EMS driver, but would rather use XMS as this
seems to be more popular (simpler?) nowadays.

I could use (a) docs on XMS drivers or (b) a way of getting extended memory
to pretend to be expanded memory.  I once heard of something like this;
maybe it was the other way around.

Please e-mail replies as I have to call long distance for this connection
and can't waste time (and money) wading through the zillions of articles
in ibm.pc groups.
