If you don't want to use it as the console, you don't need the kernel device
driver. The X server code is available (it was in X11R4; an X11R5 port is
available by anonymous ftp: demi.mit.edu:/pub/RT/Xibm.tar.Z). I have an
n-th generation photocopy (where n is large) of the microcode and hardware
programming specs for the megapel, but you probably don't need this. The
X11R5 source code is at least as good a guide (partly because I worked
around some undocumented microcode bugs).

The problem is getting the microcode. That is part of AOS and AIX, not
generally available as far as I know.

The apa16 adapter documentation contains a warning: "programming and
addressing considerations preclude the use of [an apa16] in PC-AT systems".
I don't know if the megapel would have a problem.
