Has anybody a version of gcc [12]-*.* on AIX2.2.1 ? The standard C compiler is somewhat painful to use... gcc does not support AIX on the RT. It would not be a hard port
(not as hard as supporting a new type of hardware), but nobody
has done it.

What would be the problems in porting gcc to AIX? It seems that the C compiler for AIX is standard enough that it shouldn't be difficult to get gcc running. I've thought of trying this myself, as I'm just now trying to port C code, and I've had some minor problems with the IBM C compiler, since it doesn't quite seem to be 100% compatible with BSD. --Mark

Problems with an RT AIX gcc port: (1) assembler opcodes are different,
there may also be other differences; (2) floating point is different;
(3) AIX uses PIC code.

Sorry to be so mercenary about it, but if someone does get GCC to go on the RT, and I don't really care who it is <grin>, would you kindly make it available to the rest of us? Thanks. Elliott - nonprogrammer
