Audigy fails Norton Sound Diag but not Live, plus MM7 sound bug

Hello, I'm looking for help on two problems:

1) My Audigy is working remarkably well, but is FAILING the Norton
Utilities 2000 Diagnostics under Windows for the Sound Card. It starts to
play the sound test then fails almost immediately. It always fails in the
same spot, trying to play an 11Khz, 8-bit, stereo wav. My Live! card does
not fail the same test in the exact same machine and OS (Win98SE). Could
someone please try to reproduce this Audigy failure with Norton Diags for
Windows please? My Audigy card works fine otherwise and passes its OWN
diagnostic program and passes DirectX 8.1 diags, so this is just plain
weird! I've tried different slots, different driver versions, different
BIOS settings, etc already.

2) This 2nd problem is more esoteric and concerns BOTH the Audigy and the
Live. It could be a game problem related to system speed, or a
motherboard problem. The symptom is that in the game Might & Magic 7, the
"footstep" sound drops in an out randomly.. it works for periods raging
from 1 to 10 seconds, followed by similar periods of it not working. When
it is not working, I just hear a very faint click, as if the sound is
simply being cut off very quickly. My motherboard is an Abit KR7A
(KT266A) with an Athlon XP. This problem does not happen on my wife's
Duron 700 Asus A7V system even though she also has a Live card. I tried
all the PCI latency settings in the BIOS as well as all the special
"latency" patches and they dont make a bit of difference.

Thanks to any who answer, especially for question 1!

What do the non-plussed folks at Symantec say? While I wouldn't trust
Norton (fill-in product) to behave itself on ANY PC anymore - how QA changes
in a company over a 15-year space! - the Symantec support people might have
an acknowledgement of the problem, if not a workaround. Ask for Stan. Tell
'em Spud sentcha (he's not heard from me in some time!).

Is the card sharing an IRQ with anything? I find the SBLive cards tend to
"like" IRQ5, but also tend to not like sharing an IRQ with anything else.
Such will cause all sorts of anomalous behavior.

Is it in slot 1? The AGP slot shares the IRQ with slot 1 (which is empty in
my PCs).
