I'm trying to install a Soundblaster 16 P'n'P (Model #CT 2980) onto a VESA mainboard with an Intel DX2/66 CPU W/16megs of ram and a WD 610meg HD; with Windows '95B as the operating system. The card works but in the device manager there are extra entries. Each has a yellow question mark. It seems to find two Soundblaster cards. It finds a Sb16 P'n'P and installs the drivers and then it finds a SB32 AWE card and tries to install the drivers but it isn't able to find the correct drivers so I have to just click on "OK" and the boot-up finishes and I have sound but I still have the entries with the yellow flags. A couple of times, when I checked the device manager, there were also entries under "other devices." These also had the yellow question marks. I've removed all the entries and rebooted and of course it finds new hardware and installs the software; again, installing everything at least twice and not being able to find the drivers for some. Can anybody point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance. Jerry

Hi Jerry - I had a complete system crash after which I had to reformat and build everything back from the ground up. One of the things I experienced was quite similar to what you described, complete with the yellow "?". In the process of removing the yellow "?" and correcting the problem, I found a Microsoft bulletin entitled: "Sound Blaster Mode Not Detected on Media Vision PAS16." That bulletin is found at http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q139/5/23.asp and the problem it addresses is: "After you install Windows 95, sound may not be available on a system equipped with the Media Vision Pro Audio Spectrum 16 sound card because Sound Blaster compatibility mode is not detected or not listed in Device Manager". It then describes how to enable "basic configuration 2", which solved my problem and restored my PSA16 Sound Blaster compatibility mode. I hope this proves to be a help to you ... If you are unable to access the site, let me know and I will enumerate the steps so you can easily follow. Get into SAFE Mode and remove the items with the question marks. Then reboot
and let the system find the cards etc.
If you have a conflict still ie., IRQ you may need to change some settings
to make a choice which items / hardware you want to run. For example I would
like to have 4 serial ports but don't have enough IRQ's so have disabled
some to have my sound card work.
