Hi!
I've got following problem which is driving me nuts:
K6-2 300
MSI-Board
Soundblaster PCI64 (OEM)
Win98 (OEM)
AVI- & WAV-files could be played without having problems.
(Standardprograms from Win98)
MP3-files (which are OK!) could be started too but there is no
sound-output. WinAmp v1.81 (which I am using on other machines too
without problems), WinAmp v1.91, WinAmp v1.7? AND YAMP are doing
the same:
The files are played, you can see the bars jumping up and down
happily ;) Also in the Sound-Mixer (Win98 AND Soundblaster) you can
see, that there's something played. There is NO channel set to level
0 or silence in some way.
When I choose output:wav-file in WinAmp, the resulted wav-file can
be played back without problems (I can HEAR everything).
Additional, the system-sounds aren't coming to my ears either!
Again, I can see the sound-bars jumping in the mixer.
Disabling the systemsounds doesn't change anything with my MP3-problem.
Even playing Audio-CDs on the TEAC 32x-IDE CD-ROM is the same:
playing back, mixer output visible, no sound :(
I think, it can't be hardware-failure because of the wav-files
which are played back correctly. (Am I right????)
But I checked all the plugs and the PCI-Soundcard if they're
plugged in correctly...
WinAmp can't be the problem either because I tested 3 versions of it
and YAMP and it's not the only problem.
I deinstalled ALL sound-software and drivers without changing anything
with my problem :(
There's no conflict shown in the control panel/system/hardware manager.
(sorry, if the words aren't right - I just have the german windows ;)
WHAT CAN I CHECK ?????
Did anybody have had the same problem?
I don't know what to do more!!!
btw, I can't test the card in my own computer (the K6-2 is not mine)
because I got a soundcard onboard which I can't disable.
Could there be a hardware-problem?
And the computer is brandnew. Should I return the soundcard (or some-
thing else???) to the vendor?
TNX a LOT

The CD-ROM *is* connected to the soundcard.
