Hi! Today I found the "Parity B" virus on following Turtle Beach Disks: Turtle Beach Wave SE 1.2 disk Turtle Beach Monterey v1.1 Drivers and Applications disk The "Parity B" virus is a boot sector virus. It writes itself to the boot sector of harddisks and floppy-disks and can (to my opinion) only be activated when trying to boot from the infected disk. (What I've unintentionally done yesterday.) Windows 95 was reporting that the master boot record (of my HDD) was modified and Windows 3.1 was exiting during system load. You can find and remove it with SCAN V 2.2.11 (use the /clean option). I've only found it on my HDD and on the disks mentioned above. Either there was no time for it to infect other applications or it is just infecting the boot record. Please let me know if you've found it too. Bye, Werner. ----------------------------- Werner Frieb e8826872@student.tuwien.ac.at -----------------------------

There are no reports of anyone ever getting a virus from any of our disks. Of course, we have not shipped those disks in almost a year. David A Gasior davidg@tbeach.com Turtle Beach Systems

My guess is your bug got onto the disks you have from some other source (did you bother to write-protect them before installing the driver-software?). I've talked to other Turtle users across the country -- no bug reports from them either. So far, you seem to be the only person with this problem -- better have a look at some of your programs on archive (especially public domain software). Good Luck! Cheers! I didn't even remove the write-protection and I'm always protecting disks containing original software. Can't be so now. So I haven't a clue where I've got the virus and how it came onto the TB disks. Sorry for alarming you, I just wanted to prevent harm. Thanks for your answers. A little while ago I bought a cassette for my wife for Valentines day, the clerk noticed that the case was cracked and gave me a new one. I asked him if he had a shrink wrap machine as I did not want to give an opened gift(again :-) ). And he said yup, and used his hair dryer to re-shrink wrap the plastic. Is it possible your local vendor re-sold the software? Just my .02$ (Canadian). -- Brian M. Systems Officer MCSS aka. Ichtus <><

I can't imagine a store not repackaging returned products and reselling them as new. If they do, then someone else may have infected the disk and then returned it. The reselling of used hardware as new is, I believe, a widespread practice. In fact, I expect to see a whole slew of lawsuits concerning this matter. The Borg assimilated me & all I got was this lousy T-Shirt!
