Hoping someone can help me solve this problem..

I have an Intel 486DX33 with a "SoundBlaster 16 Value" sound card,
model# CT2770 that has been operating for some time with the following
default parameters:

	Base I/O address:	220H
	IRQ: 5
	Low DMA: 1
	High DMA: 5

All jumpers and s/w parameters match the above specs. These specs are
the Creative defaults.

So far so good...

I recently bought a Creative/Panasonic IDE quad spin CD rom drive to connect
to the 40 pin interface on the sound card. (I am already using both hard
drive connectors). I have assumed that the two devices will be compatible
as they are both from the same manufacturer. (the interface on the soundcard
is labelled as 'Creative/Panasonic Drive').

The problems arise when the CD is plugged into the sound card as the PC fails
to recognise the soundcard when rebooting. It is always complaining about
the Base I/O address. I have tried all 4 jumper combinations with the
appropriate config modifications with no success. I have tried to reinstall
the soundcard drivers but it fails to find the card at any of the available
i/o addresses regardless of how the card is configured.

If I unplug the CDrom, all is well again, the config utility find the card
at its configured address and all is well in the world!!

Is the interface on the soundcard IDE?

 Is there a compatibility problem?

The CD jumpers are set to 'Master'. I have tried 'Slave' - no change.

There is a cable select option, what is this for?

Please help, I am running out of hair to tear out..

Probably not, I beleive the soundcard i/face is generic for double speed
drives.

Have you tried removing your slave hard disk and connecting the cd rom as a
slave.

See the answer (1) above.

You shouldnt need to use the cable select option.

Hope this helps.
