Update! I have uploaded a new version of the A3DDRIVERS.ZIP file to our web and FTP sites. This package contains the latest 2.02 A3D Drivers, as well as a nifty install program that will take care of copying the files over for you, as well as making the necessary updates to your Registry. Everyone with a true A3D-capable card should download this if they are having problems initializing A3D in Half Life or Motorhead. This should fix the problem once and for all! Again, make sure you have (1) the latest drivers for your sound card, (2) these new A3D drivers, and (3) the Half Life patch (1.0.0.6), and you will be all set. Diamond Monster Sound, M80, and MX200 owners should also download this and install it. It will not fix all the problems, however. We are still waiting on (and working with) Valve to implement a fix for the Monster Sound cards so we can test it. Hopefully, they will have a patch available to users real soon! As always, if you have any questions, feel free to email me or respond here. ------------------------------------------------------------ David A Gasior h: dgasior@home.com Developer Relations, Aureal w: dgasior@a3d.com ------------------------------------------------------------ Please note that this post reflects my own opinions, and not necessarily those of my employer.

I have seen on my MX200 a bug that sounds stick on sometimes in Half-Life. Usually it's the FirstAid station sound or the egon that keeps GOING and going until the level ends. -- "Who needs horror movies when we have Microsoft"? -- Christine Comaford, PC Week, 27/9/95

It will not fix all the problems, however. We are still Whoa there, bad recommendation. Why install it if it's useless? I just tried it with my MX200, and it's like putting on hearing protectors if I enable A3D, suddenly I can barely hear any local gunfire. Won't fix all problems? It's worse than using basic sound. -- "Who needs horror movies when we have Microsoft"? -- Christine Comaford, PC Week, 27/9/95

When the new patch from Valve is released, you will still need these files. The Monster Sound cards do not have the capability to play A3D 2.0 games without them. So while they do not fix the problems (that's to be done on Valve's end right now), they will be required. ------------------------------------------------------------ David A Gasior h: dgasior@home.com Developer Relations, Aureal w: dgasior@a3d.com ------------------------------------------------------------ Please note that this post reflects my own opinions, and not necessarily those of my employer.

Well, it could be everyone downloading the files at the same time since I just posted that you should get them, and there are a lot of Half Life users out there. :) Or it could be @Home. I know here in the SF Bay area and in one part of CT, they had horrible slowness over the weekend. I just downloaded it at about 5.3K/sec (which admittedly is still slow for a cable modem). ------------------------------------------------------------ David A Gasior h: dgasior@home.com Developer Relations, Aureal w: dgasior@a3d.com ------------------------------------------------------------ Please note that this post reflects my own opinions, and not necessarily those of my employer.

I just downloaded it at ~27 kB/s on my college ethernet connection. Seems pretty good to me, practically instant. David,
What's up with your ftp site?!?!?! I have a cable modem, and I am
currently downloading the new drivers at 2.01kB/s?? I NEVER get this slow
of a download on any other site.
