SB Live! Conflicts

I have a Micron with a Tyan Trinity mobo with Onboard sound-Creative PCI
128. I also have a GeForce DDR, a Happauge WinTV TV tuner card, and a
Creative DXR3 DVD hardware Decoder, all of which came with the
computer. The onboard sound uses 1 IRQ by itself (IRQ3), and the TV
Card and hardware decoder share IRQ5. I also have a Logitech USB
scanner. The USB hub shares IRQ10 with the winmodem.

When I disabled the onboard sound (Removed drivers via add/remove
programs in Control Panel, Removed PCI 128, Gameport, and PCI 128 Legacy
Device in Device Manager, Disabled Onboard sound in BIOS) and installed
a retail SBLive MP3, the install went without a hitch.

There were no yellow splats or red x's in Device manager.

Yet:

1. The TV application would hang if any other app was running.

2. There was no audio with the TV app (I thought for sure this was a
cable issue, and tried a different cable)

3. The computer no longer recognized the USB Scanner.

I would love to use this card - any suggestion on how to get it to
work? I am currenly thinking about the following:

1. Disabling the Legacy support
2. Utilizing USB Mouse/Keyboard. I assume that would free up those IRQs
in device manager.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You need to rearrange the cards in your system so that you don't have
cards sharing IRQ's that cannot. Check out
http://lefort.ods.org/mhz.htm to see what the PCI/Irq assignments are
for your board.

if you're not using your serial ports and parallel port you can disable
them in the bios therby freeing up irq's. Would be easier than
switching keyboard and mouse. After that give each device its own irq,
and be aware sblive uses 2 irq's

Thanks to those who responded - I got some very good tips, such as disabling
serial ports and SB16 emulation.

But in the end, it was two things that helped - 1. A slot map for the VIA
1854 (Tyan trinity) motherboard, which I believe took care of USB issue and
guess what - the SB Live card has a back input jack - I plugged the still
inop audio cable from the TV tuner into the CD Input, and guess what the TV
audio worked. So it's back to CompUSA for a swap. Oh how I hate talking to
those morons in customer service...
