Annoying clicks and thumps...is this normal???

I have noticed that with my Sound Blaster Live X-Gamer that I get a fairly
load "thump" from my speakers when I turn my computer on and off.  I have
also noticed occasional clicks and pops in audio.  Is anyone aware of any
fixes for this?  I previously had a Turtle Beach Vortex1 card that did not
exhibit this behavior.  Thanks.
