Please Help! installation of GUS PnP

Hi everyone,

I got problems in installation of my new soundcard. Please help!

    My problem is:
First, I plug the card into one of the slot and then boot up with
WIN95. It said it can find the card and I follow the instructions. It seems to work
fine. However, I try Windeck and it can't play *.wav files. I can hear the sound
repeating itself. What's wrong? Also, no sound can't be heard in Win95. ( It can
play audio CD and midi files )

Another problem is: I can't setup the card in DOS/win31. When I asked to
install emm386.exe for the optimization of SB emulation, I press "enter" to
continue. But all the things just "hang". Installation not complete...I'm sure
because no modification of my config.sys or autoexec.bat can be noticed. Why?
As a result, no sound in either DOS or Win31!

Problem again: My computer does not have enough IRQs for my devices. Since
GUS PnP occupies three IRQs, there is no room for my modem. How can I solve it?
Disable the hardware2 or hardware3? Any problems? I think that is the point
for my WIN95 instablity. Right?

For your reference, my soundcard is GUS PnP (standard) with 8Mb 60ns SIMM
RAM installed. My computer is P75 PnP supported MB with 24Mb RAM.

Will the problems arise because of bus mastering driver, extra IDE port in
the card, or else...?

       Thanks in advance!

Ricky

I can play wave. But sometime when you multi-tasking too much,
the sound do repeat itself and you can't do anything other than reboot.

I have GUS PnP, 2 EIDE channel (Bus Mastering driver), Adaptec 2940UW,
2 COM Ports (COM1 mouse, COM2 modem) and I've just used up all the IRQs. If
u have PS/2 mouse, that's going to be a problem as it use an extra IRQ.

You must disable the IDE port in the card if you're to use the
second EIDE channel in your MotherBoard.

	Hope this help.

Repeating sound propably has something to do with PnP cards activation, wich should
be found from your computer's setup in startup. Activation should be FULL.

Check the control panel-system device. There must be some conflicts
of devices. I previously experienced the same case as yours. You have
to change the IRQ, memory address etc in the system device dialog
boxes to make them work.

Does it work in DOS? Do you have ram installed on the card?

>As a result, no sound in either DOS or Win31!
You need ram installed on the card for the emulation. You don't need
the SB emulator to get sound in win 3.11 or dos at all!!! For win 3.11
you need to install its drivers, for dos you only need to install
iwinit.exe, execute it and have the appropriate settings in your
autoexec.bat and iw.ini files, that's it. Try running iwinit -v9.
Who needs SB emulation anyway, I don't... ;-)

You can disable the things you don't really need for starters,
secondly, some irq can be shared (with the irq used by the gus p'n'p
card ofcourse, not the other ones).

If you don't use the secondary IDE port, disable it! You'll have an
extra irq! Something more: a printerport doesn't really require an
irq. If you install a mr.bios and use the printerport's irq, it will
work just fine ;-)

Don't we all :)

The last two IRQ's(i.e. hardware 2 and 3) are not needed by Win95
usually. These were put there to provide hardware compatability with
SB and EmU! You can get rid of them fairly easily. To get the the
sucker to run in DOS prompt, I suggest you read the technical faq in
the support section of the gravis home page(www.gravis.com) they tell
you exactly which files to modify.
