NE2K clone, MPU401 and SB16 SCSI-2 conflict?

I tried to install a NE2K clone (Accton) the other day in my DX2-80. While it fitted in okay, the software that came with the card to install and set the parameters failed to find the card. A test in another machine confirmed that the card is okay. Both the software that came with the card and Win95 found the card with no problem. Now the specifics - the failing machine has a Voyetra MPU401 card with base address of 330H. There is also a SB16 SCSI-2 card. I have jumpered this card so that the MIDI port on it is 300H so it will not conflict with the Voyetra card. Given that the default base address of the NE2K card is 300H also could this be confusing the installation program? Am I getting some sort of conflict with the SCSI port on the SB16? I cannot remove either the Voyetra or SB16 card so am I out of luck or should I be looking at say a 3COM clone or something like that? Thanks for any suggestions on this problem. -- ____________________________________________________________ Laurence Chiu : Sydney, Australia lchiu@zip.com.au : Tel (wk) (02)312-1886

And you're right, it *is* an address conflict. The easiest solution for you is to configure the card in the other computer, then move it into the one you want to use it in. Since the configuration is written to the card and saved in hardware, it shouldn't give you any problems after that. -- Nalin Dahyabhai nsdahya1@eos.ncsu.edu http://www4.ncsu.edu/~nsdahya1/

Wouldn't it be easier to pull out the offending card, in this case the SB16 and then reinsert it after the network card has been configured? Kelvin

Could be IRQ conflict too - if the card is softset to whatever IRQ. Your Voyetra card should use 9, the SB card 5 or 7 ... plus maybe another one. BTW, watch the ISA bus speed for that dx2-80 in your CMOS setup. That might make the card unrecognizable with an ysettings if it's too fast :) -- Home: dremu@emf.net find me on the PSQ homepage http://www.emf.net/~quam Work: support@maxis.com Maxis Software Toys: The SimCity People Maxis -=- 2121 N California Blvd, Suite 600 -=- Walnut Creek CA 94596-3572 Voice 510.927.3521 FAX 510.927.3581 BBS 510.927.3910 Tech support horror stories #4,901: Tech rep: Where are you right now?
