I am interested in working with 16-bit stereo sound samples. In order to use these samples in other programs for analysis and other signal processing operations, I need to access sound samples which are in a signed or unsigned 2 byte format,i.e. simple linear representation of sample amplitudes. To be more specific about this point, let say the sample amplitudes are in the range [-32767, 32767] are to be represented ina 2-byte 2's complement representation such that the smallest positive amplitude will be 0x0000 , the next one 0x0001, the maximum positive signal amplitude will be 0x7fff, the smallest negative amplitude will be 0xffff. Does any one of the MS-Windows sound editing, recording, processing programs allow you to write the recorded sound samples in a signed/unsigned 2-byte format? Does anybody have any experience with such a sound sample transformation? If there is such a program does it work with all 16-bit sound cards or with only a specific one? Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated. ========================================================================= Dr. Mehmet Zeytinoglu Voice: (416) 979-5000 ext. 6479 Department of Electrical Engineering Fax: (416) 979-5280 Ryerson Polytechnical Institute E-mail: mzeytin@ee.ryerson.ca 350 Victoria Street Toronto, Ontario CANADA, M5B 2K3 =========================================================================
