Hi news-groupies, I have a utility called wintar. It allows me to read tar files and tar floppies. I am trying to get it to read a tar tape, but I don't know what device to specify it as. Does anyone know what device to specify. It is an exabyte 8200 on a soundblaster scsiII card. I have no trouble accessing it through norton backup. It is at a target of 5. Thanks in advance. Brian

There is a DOS utility called TAPEDISK that will make a DAT tape drive (SCSI) appear as a DOS drive letter (like "M:"). TapeDisk costs $250 and works swell. It requires an ASPI driver (so does Norton). You can buy it from The Programmer's Shop or other mail-order software houses specializing in tools and utilities. Jim Glass

I'm looking for a good dos tape backup utility on an Adaptec ctlr Any info will be appreciated. Thanks, Edgar

You can also read & write tar tapes with the MKS toolkit and an ASPI tape driver, and there is also a port of GNU TAR for DOS.
