feustel@netcom.com (David Feustel) writes: ] I heard a rumor today that Intel is seriously thinking about ] scrapping the Pentium for another chip architecture (the 960mx?). Can ] anyone confirm/deny/amplify this rumor? This is an idiotic rumor. No part in the 960 architecture will EVER replace the x86 line. Where did you hear such lunacy ? There are more x86-family projects in the works at Intel than you can shake a stick at. x86 will be the architecture of Intel's main processor line for years. Dr. Grove says so, and it also makes sense, so it's probably true. Now whether something else will replace the "P5" chip, and when that might happen, I can't say. But you can be sure it will execute the Intel486(tm) instruction set. -- Dennis O'Connor doconnor@sedona.intel.com
