82780 on the 486 local bus?

The 82780 is an Intel support chip that provides high speed, 8 channel DMA,
20 interrupt lines, internal timers, DRAM refresh timing, and a set of steak
knives. I would prefer to use it on a project based around a 486 rather
than Intels 82350 chipset because I don't need (want) all the extras the
chipset comes with. However, the data sheet for the 82780 says that it's
optimized for the 386 bus, and I can't determine whether it will function
on the 486 bus. The NA# input to the 82780 I can work around, but are the
timings on the 486 bus so different from the 386 that it precludes the use
of the 82780? Any replies or pointers to applications notes would be
appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Rick.
