The P6 really isn't an issue in the pricing structure of the pentium
chip. It's a nice piece of technology, but it's geared for corporate
duty, not the home & small business market
Another factor which, ostensibly, will make first quarter `96 an
attractive time for a P5 purchase is the December `95 release of
Cyrix' x686 chip which, by all available pre-release data, will run
32 -and- 16-bit apps considerably faster than a Pentium of equivalent
clock speed.
Locally, I can pick up an Intel Triton MB w/ 133 Mhz pentium chip &
256Kb L2 cache for just under $800.00+tax. I expect by the time the
Cyrix-powered systems acheive market acceptance (Mar `95) I will be
able to pick up that same board/chip for $100.00 less. That is,
barring an unforseen disaster shrinking the pool of available
pentiums. (Not likely)
And, oh yeah, don't read ad's in the trades, view hardware newsgroups,
or go near a hardware house for at least six months, you will feel
better about your purchase if you don't focus on how quickly it loses
it's value.
One ray of hope... technology prognosticators predict that sometime in
the middle of the next century technology for personal computers will
plateau due to the restraint of the laws of physics. (Tongue planted
firmly in cheek)
			Best `o luck, Hal
