 Way back when. . . . I remember using a brand new tactical multiplexer/radio
 that used a Z80 microprocessor.  It does not seem like most military
 equipment is / was built for speed. Other factors like cost, durability,
 and ability to operate in hostile enviorments seem to be more important.
