There comes a point, like diving into a freezing swimming pool, where you just have to take a breath and make the jump (this of course implies that you are intent at diving in at some point). > prices to wholesalers at any time. Though this argument could go on forever, if you DO wait until the 1st quarter of next year to buy, you may be able to pick up a P5-133 for a great price because of the release of the 150 in addition to the normal price drop. Also, it allows more time for the fledgling Apple/Firepower/etc PowerPC vendors to make the competition heat up a bit more (more volume on the PPC 604...hopefully) which could end up driving the Pentium prices down more than they otherwise might. I am waiting until January-to-March in order to purchase a new Pentium motherboard with burst cache and all the other acoutrements - PLUS the fact that by then, there will be more versatile boards that can handle from 90 to 150 or 180 Mhz, leaving me the option of further relatively cheap upgrades in the coming two years. Right now, I have found only a couple of vendors that can supply boards that are able to accept a 180 Mhz pentium...and they are a bit steep. By waiting just a little while longer, I can get a top of the line system with the capability of further growth into chips that aren't even available yet. As far as the computer market goes (which is much like the auto market) this helps maintain my investment value for a little longer...buy near the top with room to grow and it wont immediately be obsolete to the same extent as is usually the case. poneil@genetics.utah.edu
