I have a Zeos 486DX2/66 computer, approximately 2 1/2 years old. Yesterday, I
purchased the 83 MHz petntium overdrive for it, and after opening the box,
phoned Zeos to double-check compatibility. They said that no jumper settings
should be needed to be changed, so I went ahead with the installation.
I'm running Windows 95, and the installation disk comes with utilities and
demonstrations to be installed before the processor. I figured that Win 95
would be compatible with the Windows utilities, so I ran the setup program
from Windows 95. I selected to install the fan monitor, and all went smoothly,
and the program required that I reboot my computer to complete installation.
However, the computer restarted, and stuck at the Windows 95 logo screen. The
little blue bar was still moving left across the screen, but there was no disk
activity or response for a long time.
I figured the lockup was due to my machine searching for a fan and not finding
one, so I figured it would be solved once I installed the pentium OD chip.
After installation, I turned the machine on, and the machine again stopped at
the Windows 95 logo. (But, the SPEED in which it locked up was impressive :)
Savefe mode would not work, either. It simply locks up.
Next, I tried to re-install Windows 95. The install program got to the point
where the little drum appears and reads "Copying Files...", and there was the
message:
Generic Installer
Error SU99405
UpdateInis = processimg error
(0 x 195)
And the machine returns to DOS. Hmmm... I wonder if "processimg" is done
on an Imtel processor... :)
Safe recovery gave the same troubles. I've tried running the install from both
DOS and Windows, too... all to no avail.
The overdrive processor itself does not appear to be at fault; all of my DOS
programs run faster. It's just that I'm locked out of Win 95.
I tried to reinstall my 486 chip, noting exactly the orientation it was in
before, but it made a sizzling sound like if there is a short in the system.
Reinstalling the pentium OD worked again, but no Win 95...
I'm a college sophomore, and all my work is done within Windows... If anybody
has any ideas as to what the problem is, please email me or post here.
Thank you for your help,
G. Stuart Mendenhall
