polito@sal-sun12.usc.edu (Ryan Polito) writes: NNTP-Posting-Host: sal-sun12.usc.edu ] ] ] I don't know a lot about computers but I do know that I have a problem. ] I recently bought a 486 pc system from a dealer that assembles the units in the ] shop so I got a pretty good deal. The problem is that after about 5-10 minutes ] after booting up the whole thing freezes up. It won't accept any keyboard ] commands and if a program is running it stops. This seems to happen for all ] types of software so that is probably not the problem. ] ] I do have a warantee ( even if I can't spell it ), but I don't have the ] time to bring it down and it will probably take a week to fix anyway. ] ] Does any one have any suggestions as to what it might be? Any help is ] appreciated. ] ] thanks ] Ryan Other than the obvious response (bring it back), try running with the cover off for a while. It sounds like you bought a garage special. Usually these guys don't spend alot of time worrying about airflow in their systems. (Every semicon vendor specs airflow and thermal numbers in their datasheets, unfortunately in the case of fly-by-night PC assemblers they never read - or ignore- them.) -- | Mitch Kahn | "I hope you know that this will go down on | | mkahn@sedona.intel.com | your permanent record..." | *************************MY OWN OPINIONS*********************************
