Future of i860 line

From some of the messages posted around here recently, I gather that
Intel has announced that there will be no more development of the i860
line. This is somewhat surprising, since the 860 has been used as a
high-speed FP processor in many designs, but I guess most of them
were rather low-volume. Anyway, is there anybody out there who can
confirm this "for sure"? Does this simply mean that no new members of
the family will appear in the future, or is Intel going to drop support/
manufacturing of the devices? Pointers to articles relating to this would
also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
JF
