I just got my 50 MHz 486DX motherboard with 256 kB of external cache, UMC chipset and AMI BIOS. The motherboard is made in Taiwan by a company called Gigabyte. I believe these boards have been used by the US company VCOM in their machines. I noticed that the cache SRAM (made by Micron Tech.) is rated at 25 ns. Is that really OK? Shouldn't they have been rated at 1/50MHz=20 ns or faster, or am I missing something here? Also, the manual talks about DATA and TAG SRAM. Althogh I have some ideas about what TAG is, could anyone please explain it to me? I'm asking about this since my new motherboard has a problem when I power on the system, and it tends to reboot at the slightest touch of the PC case. Please email any replies.
