D850EMV2 On-board sound vs Sound Blaster Live, conflict?

I currently have installed a SBLive Value Card I have been using forever (I
know its old). This is my first MB with onboard sound. Is there going to
be a problem having the sound card in there? I seem to be having some sound
quality problems but I can narrow it down to the card, the MB, or the
speakers.

I have the same mobo. Everything I've read about the onboard sound is
that it is approximately equivalent to a SBLive in quality, and I must
say it sounds great thru higher end phones and thru a home theater
system with near high end components+speakers.

What are your sound quality problems?

Mostly popping and crackling. However, I have to say I just intalled the
latest drivers for SoundMAX and removed the SBLive card and it seems to have
cleared up. A BIOS/sound driver/Intel Application Acelerator driver update
did the trick. I'm still concerned about gaming performance with onboard
audio. Any problems playing games or using software with high CPU
utilization?

um yea unless u have a really fast chip.. if the soundcard is need in the
cpu to do its tasks then its going to slow everything down a bit.. altoough
the sb value card will do the sound processing itself its going to come out
with its 16 channel whatever sound and quality may be lost.. on a positive
note a sb live 5.1 value only costs about 15 me thinks and that sould
therefore be the same output as the mobo but not thrash the cpu.
Personally i h8 mobo's that have onboard sound / video / networking etc.. as
i have use a audigy2 value card and dont want conflicts.
im now however getting pops from my center speaker (sb6.1) every now and
then.. either when its quiet or playing music / games. such is like i
suppose..

Ryan your reply did not show on my server so I had to carve it from
Jon's post. Supposedly this onboard sound solution uses less
resources in some cases or more but not enough to be noticeable:

http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/action/printarticle/1277/

I have had absolutely no problems with the onboard sound.

Odds are the onboard sound is better than the live card. Take the card
out and see what inproves. If you insist on leaving the card in did you
disable the onboard? Follow instructions in the mobo book.
