Can anybody identify this motherboard? GA-586ATE BIOS missing Intel PCI Chipset Socket 7 6 SIMM sockets 4 PCI 4 ISA On board I/O Odd thing is the power connector. It's non-standard and next to the ZIF Same creamy colour as the ZIP with two rows of 8 pins then two jumpers then two rows of 5 pins !?!? There are plastic grips at each end to hold some sort of cable in.... never seen one like this before... Also in need of a BIOS if anyone can identify the board. -- David Longley

Clearly you haven't cos it ain't the power connector socket!!! It's the VRE/VRM socket (Voltage Regulator Module) which confirms it as Socket 7. >Also in need of a BIOS if anyone can identify the board. The ad in PCW claims they're shipped with Award Flash BIOS. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Mr. Darren P. So what does this VRE/VRM module do? The "Endeavour" boards have a DIP switch for VR/VRE (even for socket 5 ZIFs).. > >Also in need of a BIOS if anyone can identify the board. > > The ad in PCW claims they're shipped with Award Flash BIOS. > But can I get just the BIOS from anywhere was the question. There's an EPROM missing! - I thought FLASH BIOS based boards were distinguished by their lack of such EPROMs <G> -- David Longley

Nothing in *my* May PCW on p54-55 except a review of GADGETS. In fact, no mention of Choice Peripherals in the index either. I checked out the March ad, and it's close but not the same.. I'll try and find April's PCW.... I've ben told it's a PCI/PNP 586 BIOS AWARD INC -- David Longley

It is a Gigabyte motherboard, I have the exact same one myself. Mine is using an Award bios v4.50PG. The "power connector" you refer to is a Voltage Regulator Module (VRM Socket), and used for single and dual processor voltage settings, this is right from the manual. -- Steven M.
