A couple of months ago, I removed my P133 from my socket 7 Endeavour board and sold the CPU. I decided to wait for the P166 to come down in price. About 5 weeks ago, I needed something off one of the Panasonic PD optical disks, so rather than removing the drive completely, I powered it the system up and ran the ribbon cable to the PD system from the other machine I was using. Today, I've put a P100 back into the Endeavour and when powered up I get nothing on the screen, and just one beep round about the time one would expect it to finish the POST. The CPU checks out ok on another EV board with all the RAM etc moved over, so the problem is down to the board. The only thing that is odd is that it does try to access the floppy, and after the first seek it goes into a frantic sek mode, Can someone suggest (helpfully) what may be wrong, and what I can do about it? Has the flash ROM become corrupt or something? -- David Longley

When the bios gets screwed up, you can set a jumper and the system will restore the bios off of a floppy when it is booted. It sounds like this is what it is trying to do. Look in your manual for the location of this jumper and see if you have it set right. Just a guess. Bob rfs@dsc.com
