Someone else recently had this same sort of problem, and I recommended
deBabelizer, a batch image conversion application.

The person responded back that it worked great, so you may want to look
into it. The company that produces it is located in CA, I believe. If you
have trouble finding it, let me know and I'll try to get you more info.
