TrueType is slow?

Since updating to System 7 and its TrueType fonts I've noticed that
screen updates, particularly Canvas documents( on a Mac IIsi ) are slower.
A drawing in Canvas now takes at least twice as long to redraw.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Steve.
