I bought ACT! for the Macintosh as soon as it was available.
I have used ACT! for more than 5 years, since Version 1 of ACT! for DOS.
Frankly, I couldn't wait for the Mac version.
I could not get by without contact management software. Whether ACT! is the
best, I can't tell you. I have only looked at one other product, Telemagic
and I didn't like it as well as ACT!
I started using ACT! to keep track of the calls I had to make in recruiting
speakers for a very large telecommunications conference. I also use it to
make prospect calls for new clients and, of course, as a tool for keeping
track of the people I have to call to complete research projects (ITR does
market research in the computer industry).
I also use ACT! to keep track of calls to suppliers. I'm upgrading one Mac
to System 7.1 and you wouldn't believe how many software vendors I had to
call to get software upgrades that will run with 7.1.
I almost never dial a phone call. The amount of time I save from NOT misdialing
probably pays for ACT! (BTW, I have not yet been able to get ACT! to dial
calls through an external modem connected to the modem/printer port of my Duo 230.
Apparently Contact Software International did not use Communications Tool
Box as its dialing resource. I sure hope they fix this in an update.)
I have two computers in my office: a Mac and a Compaq DeskPro. One of the
reasons that I kept the Compaq was that I needed it to run ACT! Now that
I have ACT up and running on the Mac, I should be able to get rid of the Compaq
-- as soon as I port all of my DOS ACT! databases to ACT! for Macintosh.
Contact Software International does not have an 800 number for support and
sometimes you can be on hold for several minutes. However, the ACT! Tech
Support people are knowledgeable and pleasant to deal with.
If you need the functionality of a contact manager, I would recommend ACT!
I vaguely remember a recent reference on the net to a review of contact management
software in the February 1993 issue of MacWorld. You may want to check it
out.
Good luck.
John
