GIFconverter 2.3b2 (I think thats the latest beta release) reads
JPG files. The benefit to gifconverter is (contrary to what its name
implies) that it reads several formats (tiff, pict, jpg, gif and some others)
and can do conversions to and from any format that it supports.

There is also another utility called pictpixie that's fairly good - can
be found on ftp.apple.com in (I think) /dts/mac/quicktime. This is free
whereas gifconverter if your conscience so dictates is $30 shareware.
pictpixie has an annoying problem with freezing your system if it encounters
corrupt .jpg or .gif files. It freezes so severely that I can't drop into
macsbug using the IIci programmers switch. for me this doesn't happen too
often though.
